OPG (Panoramic X-ray)
We are consistently investing in new equipment at Wanaka Dental so we can provide the best treatment for our patients. We are happy to now have our OPG up and running so we no longer need to refer our patients elsewhere.
What is an OPG you may ask...
The term OPG (also known as a panoramic X-ray) Test stands for Orthopantomogram test. It is a dental X-ray that provides a panoramic view of the teeth, mouth and jaws. The OPG test is comfortable and non-invasive. To perform this X-ray, patients need to bite down on a small piece of plastic while the OPG x-ray machine moves around their head to capture the panoramic image. This gives a two-dimensional view from ear to ear. The OPG Test is a valuable and helpful diagnostic tool that helps dentists and dental specialists to identify various dental and oral health problems.
Let’s have a look at the reasons why you might need an OPG X-ray
To diagnose dental problems
OPG is a needful tool to detect a range of dental issues, such as cavities, gum disease, impacted teeth, and abscesses. It can also show the position and development of teeth, including wisdom teeth, which may require extraction. To identify oral diseases
An OPG can identify various oral diseases, including oral cancer, cysts, and tumors. To plan dental treatment
OPG provides a comprehensive view of the teeth and jaws, allowing dentists to plan and execute dental treatments more accurately. For example, it can help determine the placement of dental implants, braces, or dentures. To monitor dental development
OPG can monitor the growth and development of jaws and teeth in children, helping to identify any potential problems allowing early intervention. To assess jaw and facial injuries
OPG can help diagnose fractures and other injuries to the jaw and facial bones.
